A2: FAST TO EUROPE!
106km section of A2 Motorway to the German border celebrates its 1st anniversary.
• 106 km section of the A2 Motorway from Świecko to Nowy Tomyśl is the largest infrastructural project in Europe implemented in the Public-Private Partnership system.
• A2 section opened to traffic on 1 December 2011, six months prior to the deadline agreed upon with the government
• the section was made available to drivers free of charge during 6 months (from 1 December 2011 to 21 May 2012)
• The value of the project performed using the modern, concrete technology amounts to EUR 1.3 milliard
• 25% of the project budget was spent on environmental protection
• The project was co-financed by the European Investment Bank and the consortium of 11 Polish and foreign banks
• AWSA and AWSAII built 255 km of A2 motorway in total; this is the longest section built and managed by one concessionaire in Poland.
Traffic in the A2 Motorway under concession:
Świecko – Nowy Tomyśl (106km) A2 section
• 4 mln vehicles used the Rzepin –Nowy Tomyśl section of A2 Motorway (from 1 December 2011 to 30 October 2012)
• in the Rzepin – Nowy Tomyśl section the average daily traffic amounts to 11 thousand vehicles
• in the Świecko – Rzepin section the average daily traffic amounts to 17 thousand vehicles.
• Traffic structure: 40% heavy vehicles, 60% passengers’ cars
Nowy Tomyśl – Konin A2 section (149km)
• Average daily traffic amounts to 20 thousand vehicles
• From December 2002 to November 2012 55 million vehicles passed through the Lądek TP
• From November 2003 to November 2012 47 million vehicles used the Nagradowice TP
• From October 2004 to November 2012 4 million passed through the Gołuski TP
• Traffic structure: 30% heavy vehicles, 70% passenger cars
Free of charge Poznań By-Pass:
• 50 thousand vehicles per 24 hours use the 13km Komorniki – Krzesiny section
• the average daily traffic in the Poznań Wschód – Komorniki and Krzesiny – Poznań Zachód sections amounts to 31 thousand vehicles.
• The highest traffic flow ever exceeding 62 thousand vehicles was observed on 26 October 2012.
The most important investments in A2 in the year 2012.
The upgraded Buk interchange was opened to traffic – 23 April 2012
• 100% of the investment was financed from the AWSAII budget
• the connection of the Buk interchange towards the Western border in Świecko was made available
• Toll Plaza was put into operation in the interchange
• the so-called partial tolls were introduced for trips made in the Buk – Poznań and Buk – Nowy Tomyśl section
2 new interchanges were opened to traffic: Poznań Zachód and Poznań Wschód – 3 and 4 June 2012.
• The investment partly financed by AWSAII – the PLN 94 mln cost on AWSAII side
• Extension of the free of charge Poznań By-Pass from 13 km to 25 km
The upgraded Słupca interchange was opened to traffic – 22 November 2012
• 100% of the investment financed from the AWSAII budget– the costs totaled almost PLN 40 mln
• less toll evasion in the flow of vehicles using the interchange
• the construction of the Toll Station in the interchange for drivers making Słupca – Września and Września – Słupca trips
The most important plans for 2013
• Commencement of the works related to the construction of the third lane in the free of charge motorway by-pass of Poznań, obtaining environmental permits and decisions (the construction planned to start in 2014).
• Extension of the Lądek TP (Września – Konin) by 2 additional lanes in each direction.
• Preparation to make the Jordanowo interchange available in the full scope. The Jordanowo interchange is strategic for the connection with Szczecin, Zielona Góra or Gorzów, and also for the development of the Lubuskie province. GDDKiA declared to open the express road no 3 to traffic on 1 July 2013.
Impact of the A2 Motorway on road traffic safety
• During the last 5 years the road traffic safety improved as much as 25% owing to the motorways. In 2007 in all national and express roads and the motorways 10 536 accidents were observed, compared to 7991 in 2011. (GDDKiA data)
• With A2, the safety in the alternative DK92 road improved almost by 50%. In 2009, 239 accidents were noted (52 casualties, 320 injured), compared to 142 accidents in 2011. (36 casualties, 179 persons injured)

• Infoline for drivers of the A2 concession section, open 7 days a week from 8.00 to 20.00, available at the telephone no 48 504 422 022 and e-mail address: [email protected]
• The infoline employees replied to over 6 thousand questions from drivers (from the opening on 5 March 2012)
• www.autostrada-a2.pl – the Website also available in mobile and English language version

• Almost 1.5 thousand pieces of information on the current road situation in the A2 concession section, over 400 answers given to drivers’ questions
• Almost 2000 persons in total are permanently interested in receiving the information concerning the motorway issues and follow-up of the current road situation in A2
• In August 2001 the calculator of trip costs in A2 was put into operation – the „Fast A2 connection, you know your cost” application on Facebook. Upon the drivers’ request the calculator was made available in AWSAII Website as well.
A2 to Świecko in the opinion of Poznań inhabitants*
• 73% think that Poland has gained a fast and safe connection to Europe owing to the A2 concession motorway
• 57% state that the highest AWSAII value consists in extending the Poznań by-pass from 13 km to 25 kilometers
• owing to A2,25% use the tourist offer of Berlin and other European cities more often, and 31% plan their holiday leaves taking into account the offers of German airports and travel agencies.
• 19% appreciate modern, European quality of the construction technology, and 10% appreciate information services for drivers open 7 days a week during 24h
