Completion of the Poznań Wschód Interchange renovation

This Saturday, 6 September, the second stage of resurfacing works at the Poznań Wschód motorway interchange – a strategic junction of the A2 motorway and the S5 expressway from Bydgoszcz – will be completed. The project was fully financed by Autostrada Wielkopolska S.A.

Modernisation works at the Poznań Wschód interchange (km 180 of the A2) are part of the expansion of the concession section of the A2 to three lanes in each direction between the Poznań Krzesiny and Poznań Wschód interchanges. The works involved replacing the wearing course of the pavement.

To minimise inconvenience for drivers, the renovation was divided into two stages:

• Stage I (May 2025) – involved the resurfacing of entry ramps onto the A2 motorway, both towards Warsaw and Świecko. During this stage, entry from the S5 expressway onto the A2 was closed, and drivers were directed to detours via the DK92 and neighbouring motorway interchanges.
• Stage II (August–September 2025) – involved the modernisation of exit ramps from the A2 motorway onto the S5 expressway towards Bydgoszcz.

Each stage was carried out efficiently, according to schedule, and in compliance with the highest standards. During the resurfacing of the Poznań East interchange, HIMA (Highly Modified Asphalt) was used. This is a modern technology that provides higher resistance of the pavement to heavy traffic loads and variable weather conditions. As a result, the interchange has not only gained improved quality but also greater durability, which in the long term will translate into enhanced driver safety and less frequent need for maintenance.
In addition, new thick-layer road markings were applied, and works are being finalised to increase the height of noise barriers within the interchange. As part of the construction of the third traffic lane, a double exit lane towards Bydgoszcz has been created, which will significantly improve traffic flow in this area.

Thanks to efficient execution and favourable weather conditions, the works will be completed on schedule on Saturday, 6 September. The completion of both stages of the Poznań Wschód interchange renovation is another step in the process of modernising the A2 motorway and adapting it to increasing traffic volumes. The resurfacing will not only improve travel comfort but, above all, road safety.
