Travelling on motorway is much safer then using other roads.
These are the main reasons:
- The motorway surface quality is much better and increases the driving comfort for the drivers and passengers, which directly improves concentration and mental and physical abilities of road users;
- The efficient road marking and signalling system provides the travellers with continuous and reliable information;
- The travellers may use one of the Rest and Service Areas (MOPs) for a safe and comfortable stop;
- All motorway intersections are two-level.
- The ERT columns are located every 2 km and are used to notify the traffic safety services of accidents and emergencies 24 h a day;
- Except for the intersections, the entire motorway is fenced to prevent animals from entering the carriageway (separate passages were built for animals under and above the motorway);
- Travel time is fixed and much shorter to travelling a parallel road, regardless of weather conditions, easy to foresee and there is no need to hurry;
- The motorway is also a safety valve for the vehicle traffic as it takes over the most burdensome traffic users from parallel roads (trucks and fast passenger cars and motorcycles).
Before you start your travel ...
- Check technical condition of your vehicle;
- Check the weather conditions;
- For your own safety, adhere to the speed limits – maximum 130 km/h or any other limits in such locations where renovations are carried out, at access to the Toll Plazas, etc.
- Keep a safe distance between the vehicles adjusting the distance to your driving speed. Remember that the higher the speed, the larger should be the distance between the vehicles.
- Whenever possible use the right motorway lane and change the lane only if you want to overtake a slower vehicle; after you finished overtaking, return to the right lane.
- In emergency or collision stop your vehicle in the emergency lane or as close to the carriageway edge as possible. If possible, turn on the hazard lights and put the red warning triangle at a distance of 100 m from the vehicle. Leave your vehicle (do not enter the road lane), go to the nearest ERT column to notify the motorway services of the accident or call directly from your mobile +48 61 83 83 112.
- If you take sleep inducing medicine, do not drive your vehicle.
- If you are travelling for a long time, do not drive your vehicle for longer than two hours without a break. If you notice any symptoms of tiredness, stop and rest at a nearest Rest and Service Areas that are located every 15 km along the motorway (parking, picnic area, playgrounds, WC; also filing stations, bars, restaurant or hotel at some of these R&S Areas).
- Before starting your travel, remember that you will need to pay toll (cash, credit/bank card, fuel card or discount card). Cashless payments are the most convenient forms of payment for using the Wielkopolska section of the motorway.
- Do not overload your vehicle with too much luggage; ensure that you have a good vision.
IMPORTANT! All passengers, either in the front or rear seats, are required to fasten their seat belts.
