Nowy Tomyśl is a significant centre of wicker craft, cooperating with hop plantations, numerous in this area. Everything here is made out of wicker - furniture, sunshades, fences. A gigantic wicker basket was placed in the middle of a market place in 2000. It is the biggest basket in the world, which made an entry in the book of Guiness World Records.
Nowy Tomyśl, a city of 15,000 inhabitants, was the last city in Wielkpolska established before the partitions of Poland.
The building in the suburbs of Nowy Tomyśl, is an old-time horse-post. It was here, where till the twilight of the 19th century, mail-coaches going to Berlin were stopping.
